2008/09 SEASON ANNOUNCEMENT

Dear Merely Players Friends, Casts, Crew Members, & Board Alumni:

Merely Players' enjoyed a terrific 2007/08 season with the spooky The Legend of Sleepy Hollow in the fall, and a fun, well reviewed, and relatively new musical - Zombie Prom in the spring!  We extend several very special Thank You's to our directors, Mickey Clark-Braverman &Michelle Harmon, and Jason Wilson, and to their talented artistic and production teams, actors, and musicians.  We also wish to thank our audiences for your amazing talent and support!  In addition, we have just started the final two-week camp of the season, Pop, Rock, and Broadway! in downtown Annapolis in collaboration with Theatre at St. Anne's.  We've enjoyed an amazing summer camp season and offer our many thanks to our young actors, to our musicians who volunteered their time - Elizabeth and Ned Kimble, and to our wonderful creative team, Matt Macis, Ken Kimble, Lindsay Espinosa, and Christina Bartone.

We noted earlier on this site, our plans for a full 2008/09 season, and we were very fortunate to have received a grant from the Cultural Arts Foundation.  However, after much consideration, we have decided to go on hiatus for at least the fall.  We will, of course, still offer our theatre camps for Summer 2009.

We do not take this decision lightly.  As many of you know, we have hoped for some time to negotiate residency at Chesapeake Arts Center.  This option is, at least for now, off the table and after a great deal of reflection, review of the possibilities offered to us, and assessment of the space allocations, rising costs, and other difficulties involved, we have cancelled the fall show and are researching other theatre venues for future productions.  We are encouraged to have found a few possibilities, but as we continue our research, we encourage your thoughts and suggestions.  We have had a very successful run of many years and many wonderful shows with CAC, and we wish them all the best as they develop their new initiatives and mission.

Merely Players continues to be committed to high quality entertainment using intergenerational casts and crews, while providing excellent volunteer and theatre education opportunities to our members and the community.   We appreciate all your support over the past years, and we hope you will keep us close in your thoughts as we move into a new phase of growth.  We will certainly contact you when we launch our new Season, where ever it may be.

Cheers, Beverly
